reelfoot lake fishing report

Reelfoot Lake Fishing Report for:
May 2, 2012

BLUEGILL ON BED...CRAPPIE AND BASS POST-SPAWN PHASE

Reelfoot Lake is at pool level. Water temp is 74-76. Water color remains clear to light stain, as not much rain has fallen.

Winds have packed a punch the last couple weeks and anglers are hoping the cold fronts and gale force winds are over. Normal weather has returned and the forecast is looking good for fishermen.

Last week’s cold front put the brakes on some
bluegill that were spawning early. The fish backed off the beds but are returning now that surface temps are back up.

Bluegill: Good: The bluegill are on the beds around the shoreline in 3-5' water. Biting good on crickets.

Crappie: Good: Some good catches have been taken in depths of 6 to10 feet trolling jigs and minnows. A few white crappie are still spawning in 6' water. Remember, the limit is 30 Crappie per day per man. There are no size limits on Reelfoot Lake.

Bass: Good: Most bass are in the post spawn phase and hanging around the shoreline. Some big bass are still around the deeper trees in 4-8' water and biting crank baits. Fishermen are also having success tossing 4s cranks, spinnerbaits, flukes, and buzz baits early.

Catfish: Great: The catfish are biting around the shoreline. Some good catches reported fishing from the shore. Blocks and yo-yos are catching fish out from the grass. Stink bait and night crawlers are both catching fish.

Stripes: Catching some while crappie fishing.
