reelfoot lake fishing report

Reelfoot Lake Fishing Report for:
May 8, 2011

Reelfoot Lake is 2-3 feet above pool level. High water at the lake is creating ideal fishing conditions. Water color is stained and in pretty good shape all over the lake. Surface temps this week were 65 to 70 degree range.

No wake zone is in effect for boaters traveling along the shoreline.

Bluegill: Good:  The catch rate has been good for bluegill fishermen who are landing big numbers. The bite has been quite good and will likely improve in the days ahead as the fish are ready to spawn. The bite has been good around the trees close to shore on crickets, jigs and wax worms.

Crappie: Good: Reports coming in with good catches being caught in 6-7' water. The second spawning phase is occurring with several dark males being caught in shallow water. Baits of choice have been trolling double rigs with minnows and jigs. Some fish are being caught jigging the shore and trees in 4-6' water. Remember, the limit is 30 Crappie per day per man. There are no size limits on Reelfoot Lake.

Bass: Fair: Bass have been extremely scattered. The high water allows the fish to venture into new territories in the lake. Try fishing very shallow..

Catfish: Good: The bite is good in the ditches and around the trees. Its also yo-yo time.

Stripes: Slow: Catching some while crappie fishing
