reelfoot lake fishing report

Reelfoot Lake Fishing Report for:
June 23rd, 2007

Fishing is still holding up well for this time of year. The last few days have shown some good bluegill action. The catfish are doing well and the crappie are still holding on too.

The lake is getting really low and is about 8 inches below pool level. Take it easy out there when boating. This lake level brings a lot more stumps/logs towards the surface.  The water temperature is 84. Here's the rest:

Crappie - Fair to good. Surprisingly, there are still some good stringers of crappie being caught. Minnows have been the top bait by far. Focus on depths of 6 1/2 feet or deeper.

Bass - Slow. We really need a good rain to get the bass going. The oxygen levels are just so low from the lack thereof. Will probably see a big change if we get a rain, so be prepared to load up and hit the lake when it finally does come.

Bluegill - Bluegill fishing has been excellent for the last few days. This is the third spawn and it's offering some nice action right now. Jackie had 20+ early yesterday morning when I talked to him. He also had a triple humper as they call them. Crickets are the top bait.

This third (and last) spawn might not last long, but as of yesterday it was going well. It has actually been getting better and better for the last three days or so. Get out there while it lasts.

Catfish - Excellent. The catfish don't mind the hot weather and they're finally taking off. Stinkbait, nightcrawlers and shad gut are all working. Just choose your favorite weapon for the cats right now.

Jackie says you can pull into the middle of a pocket  and start casting. If you've got a log sticking up even better. Hanging out around a showing log is always a safe bet this time of year. Best depths are 4 feet and deeper.

Good Fishing!
