reelfoot lake fishing report

Reelfoot Lake Fishing Report for:
July 8, 2012

  HIGH TEMPS DOMINATE FISHING SCENE

Drought conditions continue to influence the region. Surface temperatures this week peaked at 90 degrees, a reflection of some three-digit days.

Staying cool and hydrated is important during this historic heat wave. Heat is the number one weather-related killer in the United States. Excessive heat claims more lives each year than floods, lightning, tornadoes and hurricanes combined.

Reelfoot Lake anglers are dealing with the warm weather by rising early and hitting the lake just after dawn.

Reelfoot Lake is 14" below pool level. Surface temp is in the 87-90 degree range. Water color remains clear to light green stain.

   Bluegill: Slow

Crappie: Fair: Early morning and late afternoon. Jigs tipped with minnows and just live minnows around visible stumps and logs. Remember, the limit is 30 Crappie per day per man. There are no size limits on Reelfoot Lake.

Bass: Slow:  Anglers are finding a few willing to bite on deeper logs and trees in 4-8' water.

Catfish: Good: The catfish are biting on blocks, yo-yos, trotlines. Stink bait and night crawlers are both working.

  Stripes: Slow
