reelfoot lake fishing report

Reelfoot Lake Fishing Report for:
August 1st, 2003

Not much to say about the fishing this week. It's slow for almost every species lately. The only thing biting is the yellow bass. Not only is it the dead of summer, but the rains have had the lake levels changing constantly, making things even worse.

Lake level is about 4-5 inches above pool. We say about, because it's been changing daily. Been a long time since we've seen rains like this in July. Here's the rest:

Bluegill-Slow. Probably going to be slow for the next month or longer. That's just the normal pattern.

   Crappie-Slow.

Bass-The bass fishing is slow. Not many people after them, but the reports we've gotten are of tough fishing. Could improve a little once the water level stabilizes.

Catfish-Even the catfishing is slow. But, this could be another species that picks up a little if the water stabilizes.

Stripes (yellow bass)- Finally they're catching some of these little suckers. Fishing for yellow bass is excellent and provides the best action on Reelfoot by far. After a very slow year on them last year, it's just good to know that they aren't gone.

Try pin minnows cut in half. Fished on a slip bobber rig with a small weight and a bluegill hook. One of the top areas is out from Gooch's (now White's Landing).

They're being caught in water around 2-4 feet deep.
