reelfoot lake fishing report

Reelfoot Lake Fishing Report for:
October 29th, 2004

Still some great fall fishing this week. Bass, Crappie, Catfish and Yellow Bass are all biting. Predicted to be continued warm weather over the weekend, so good fishing should continue. A cold front might come through Monday or Tuesday. Whether it's strong enough to slow them down or not is anybody's guess.

This unseasonably warm weather has been a curse for bow hunters, but a blessing for fishermen. Warm stable conditions have provided some excellent fishing lately.

Lake level is at pool stage and water temps were at 64 degrees earlier in the week. Should still be close to that. Here's the rest:

Crappie -Crappie fishing is excellent right now. Both the north and south ends of the lake continue to produce. Some anglers have really brought in some good sized fish on the north end, but the south end might be producing more quantity.

Try 8 feet of water on the main lake (south) and 4-5 feet of water up north. Minnows are the top bait, but jigs should produce well also.

Bass -Still good, but maybe even a half notch better than last week. Lots of them hitting the surface while chasing minnows, so keep you eyes and ears open. As Jackie said, "Just look and listen and you'll find some".

Baits include spinnerbaits (white and/or chartreuse), spoons and top waters of all kinds (buzzbaits, floating worms, frogs, etc.)

   Bluegill - SLOW

Catfish - Excellent. Still doing well in 4-8 feet of water. Same ole baits (nightcrawlers, stinkbait and cut bait).

Stripes (yellow bass)- Good. Try the shallow bays such as Swan Basin and Big Star, just to name a couple. Pin minnows and small white spinners are good baits.
