NEW FISHING/HUNTING LICENSES ON SALE...NEW EXPIRATION DATE ADOPTED
Tennessee sportsmen are advised that your new fishing and hunting
licenses go on sale Friday across the Volunteer State.
While you can obtain them online at GoOutdoorsTennessee.com a lot of
sportsmen like to purchase them from a local license agent where you get
a little conversation to go along with the purchase.
Licenses are available from most county court clerks, sporting goods
stores, marinas and numerous other outlets. All prices are the same as
last year.
Licenses are good from the day of purchase. Watch for more information
coming from TWRA on the new expiration date as Tennessee will soon fall
in line with other states and go to a calendar year.
From now on when you purchase a fishing and hunting license in Tennessee
it will be good for one year after the purchase date. For decades the
state had an expiration deadline on the last day of February. That’s
changed.
Some of us are old enough to remember when licenses expired June 30th.
That was decades ago and it was changed to the end of February because a
lot of license agents voiced discontent with the expiration back then
falling on a holiday weekend such as the Fourth of July.
Back then a busy boating weekend and all the hoopla associated with the
blitz by folks renewing at one time sort of backlogged an already busy
time for small license agents at everything from boat docks and
convenience stores to sporting goods that were trying to service other
customers.
So, the agency moved away from the holiday period and adopted the late
February time frame for expiration, which has worked well for a long
time. However, several states have gone to the calendar year style and
apparently the wildlife commission chose to go that route too.
Some folks are a bit confused by it all but change is the only thing
that is constant! Meanwhile, the license holder will have to pay
attention to his personal license and be for the expiration date!
